AND THEN
THERE WERE NONE
Overview
For this project, I was asked to redesign an album or book cover of my choosing. I chose to redesign the book cover of a famous mystery novel by Agatha Christie. I used a combination of the layouts from my ideation and iteration phases of the project to create the final layout. Visual consistency was maintained through the use of a style board and a restricted color palette. This Project allowed me to grow much more comfortable with Adobe Illustrator tools and functions.
Concept Map
A concept map was used to outline desired themes and ideas intended to be incorporated into the new cover. Two large points I wanted to play on were the implied taboo of revealing spoilers on a book cover and the common saying “don’t judge a book by its cover”.
Style Board
The style board was used to maintain a consistent style and palette trough the cover. The style goals were to match Agatha’s simple and fun writing style with flat graphics and a limited color palette. I chose to use colors with lower saturation to allude to the time period of the book.
Iteration and Layout
The layout was iterated several times. The final layout was determined based on reading comfort and distribution of the color palette.
