GLADLAB
Overview
GladLab was a rebrand project for the Curmudgeon Press in Hiestand Hall at Miami University. Myself and another designer were asked to create a brand that would help allow for better utilization of a letterpress studio, with the intention of it becoming an area to allow Miami students to conduct research on community engagement. It is also meant to help facilitate the use of letterpress equipment that may otherwise leave the university if left unused.
Style Board
To start off the project we made style boards focused on 6 key words/phrases intended to be incorporated into the key values of the GladLab brand. By creating these style boards we were able to get a clearer idea of which values were more likely to have a heavier influence on the brand’s style the message people will take away from its associated assets/deliverables.
Art Boards
Shortly after, we started ideating possible names and checking their availability. Once a handful of potential names had been identified and found to be available, we build out art boards using the style boards as inspiration. Each art board focused on how we could incorporate the name into the styles from the style boards and what some deliverables might look like.
Iterations
Once the name was decided on we iterated the logo and word mark in addition to making possible deliverables that would match the new branding.
